Electoral Finance
On March 2, 2007 amendments to the Members and Public Employees Disclosure Act (MPEDA) were proclaimed into law. The new regime provides public funding of recognized political parties while establishing limits on the amount that donors can contribute to a recognized party, its electoral district associations or its candidates. The MPEDA was subsequently amended on November 5, 2009 (see Chapter 19 of the Acts of 2009). This amendment restricts political contributions to individual resident in Nova Scotia. Effective January 1, 2010, corporations, partnerships and trade unions may no longer make political contributions. Please refer to Elections Nova Scotia Circular #10-01
