Elections Nova Scotia Circular #10-01
Re: AMENDED RULES REGARDING POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS INFORMATION for Contributors and Official Agents
|
The Members and Public Employees Disclosure Act ("MPEDA"), the law governing political contributions in Nova Scotia, has been amended. This circular was prepared by the Chief Electoral Officer to assist you in understanding the amended rules regarding political contributions. However, this circular is not a substitute for the law. In addition to this circular, you should review the recent changes to the MPEDA contained in the Members and Public Employees Disclosure Act, (as amended by Chapter 1 of the Acts of 2007), and read the Political Contributions Disclosure Regulations. The Political Contribution Disclosure Regulations are currently being revised. These contribution rules first came into effect March 2, 2007. Bill 44 further amended the Members and Public Employees Disclosure Act and effective January 1, 2010 restricts political contributions to individuals ordinarily resident in Nova Scotia |
