Time Off Work
Every elector is entitled to have three consecutive hours to vote on election day. Polling station hours start at 8:00 AM and extend until 7:00 PM to give everybody a good chance to have those three hours without interfering with their work schedules.
However, if you don't have three consecutive hours outside work time on election day to vote, you do have the right to ask your employer for time off to vote. Having a right to three consecutive hours to vote does not mean you can book off any three hours in the middle of the day that you choose. Time off must be requested of your supervisor, and must be taken at a time that is convenient to the employer.
If you work from:
- 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
- Your employer may choose to let you leave at 4:00 PM
- Your employer may choose to let you leave at 4:00 PM
- 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Your employer may choose to either have you report to work
at 11:00 AM or to leave early at 4:00 PM
- Your employer may choose to either have you report to work
at 11:00 AM or to leave early at 4:00 PM
- 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM
- Your employer may choose to have you report to work at 11:00 AM
